If you want to be certain..
The purpose of a usability test is to have existing and potential users evaluate the future web solution. The evaluation will tell how easily the users can be informed and find relevant information. The evaluation concerns the users' general experiences of the pages as well as content, structure and design.
The usability test covers a couple of days with four tests a day, each test with a duration of approximately 60 min.
The progress of each test is:
- Introductory interview
- Solution of taks and doings in the web solution - primarily the tasks that the users find relevant.
- An overall evaluation of the solution
- An interview after the evaluation with focus on the future
The number of respondents differ, dependent on the broadness of the target group, but typically 8 respondents are used.
By testing the solution before it is finished one is able to find eventual anomalies and change these before many resources are spend on the completion of the web solution. Therefore a usability test most often is applied when specifications and graphic interface layout almost are in place.
